The self-slag visual effect usually appears after you start firing rather than the moment you equip it. It works best in elemental-focused setups, but the self-slag drawback needs careful management in high-damage fights. Later updates adjusted Maliwan SMG body-part distribution, which made it feel less unusual compared with other Maliwan SMGs.
